Black Out Day

Today was Black Out Day at Huia Range School.
Everyone dressed in black to celebrate the All Blacks and the Rugby World Cup (Go the All Blacks!!!!).
Miss Augustine and Miss McDonald got black and white photos of everyone in the school and made a Stand in Black Man.  If you want to see him up close, he is displayed in our school office.
He looks fantastic.
We had a Ripper Rugby Tournament and circuit activities in the afternoon for the whole junior syndicate.
We learnt how to play elastics and flick hoola hoops to make them come back to us.
We practiced lots of motorskills.  We had such a great time.
Check out the slideshow below of all our activities.
Here is a photo of the Man Standing in Black and a photo of the junior syndicate.

We are learning to sing our National Anthem

Stories by Chase and Andreas

On Wednesday afternoon mum bought a ping pong set.
"It was wicked" said Andreas.
The ball was as little as a clock.
"It was fun" said Anton and Andreas.
Click, click went the balls and we gave Mum a big hug.
By Andreas.

I am Chase.  Today is Thursday.  I wish I could go to the castle and I wish I could see a little baby dragon there.  The dragon is going to be cute.  I am going to like it.

Saturn and Neptune Art

We have learnt that Saturn has 17 moons and lots of icy rings around it.  It is the second largest planet and the 6th planet away from the sun.  It is a gas giant.
We painted orange shades and then created the icy rings using silver glitter.  We put stars around our Saturn planets.
We know that Neptune is blue and with white clouds.  We painted blue planets and then we dabbed blobs of shaving foam paint to create puffy clouds.  Neptune has 6 rings and 13 moons.  Its the smallest of the gas giants and the furthest planet from the sun.  It is windy there.  Neptune is named after the god of the sea "Neptune".

We learnt how to change the font size and the font style.

Buddy Reading with Room 4

Liam's super cool solar system

We are studying the solar system.  Liam went home and with some help from his mum, he created our solar system.  Liam used instant noodle packets and selotape to create the sun.  How clever is that?

Flashmob Haka

We have been learning about the Rugby World Cup. We know that it starts tonight with Tonga playing the All Blacks. We have looked at the teams that are playing and their Tshirts and flags. We noticed that some of the flags look a bit the same. New Zealand and Australia's flags are very similar. We found out that Georgia and Romania are playing in Palmerston North. Georgia's colours are red and Romania's colour is yellow, so everyone in Palmerston North is being asked to pick a colour to support the teams.

Have you seen the flashmob haka going on around New Zealand and the world to promote New Zealand during the Rugby World Cup?  We thought it was cool.  Lots of the children in Room 1 belong to the Kapa Haka group now!
